Local Search Engines - How Do You Score?
posted: 10/19/09 by: Michele Zappa

Is your business the best kept secret in town? Want to change that?
This article looks at how to determine your business ranking on the local search engines and why you should care.

An HVAC contractor recently shared a story with me. His company was replacing the AC units on a large commercial building and needed specialty brackets to complete the installation. Using his phone he quickly searched for a nearby construction supply store but the only results that appeared were for a large big box retailer. Later he found the company that carries HVAC supplies he has an account with had a branch store several blocks from the jobsite but they had no Local Listings for any of their stores.

Local Search Engine databases have come a long way in the past 5 years.  Submitting your business to local search engines is a bit time consuming but can be an invaluable resource to getting your business located in your local area market. When a consumer or business is looking for just about anything these days they are using the internet or a mobile device as part of their sourcing for a product or service.
